Before you proceed
Our aim is for communities throughout Scotland to be better informed and confident to take action to protect children.
We want you to be able to inform others about child sexual abuse prevention.
Our training programmes help individuals and organisations to better understand sexual offending and how to safeguard children. These include frontline workers, volunteers and others working with children and families.
Some of this material is freely available here for download and to use in training.
We do however want this to be done correctly - there is a large amount of information here
There are a number of things to consider -
- Those using the tools and information contained here should be fully aware of the materials available and of the possible impact of the information that is delivered.
- Talking or even thinking about the sexual abuse of children is a very emotive subject. The trainer must be comfortable about presenting the material. It is important to present factual information but without causing unnecessary worry. Audiences should be reassured that there is further help and support available, if required.
- Always ensure that you leave sufficient time to provide positive information about what people can do to prevent child sexual abuse.
If you are speaking to a smaller group it may be worth considering the use of one of the scenario exercises or audios to generate some structured discussion.
Staff at Stop It Now! Scotland are available to discuss the use of these materials as well other training that we offer
Survivor's testimonies
We have included three small clips from survivors of sexual abuse, discussing how it had and still is impacting their lives. We would like to thank Safe To Say and all involved for their inclusion on Upstream |

Audio clips of offenders
They are recordings of offenders (voiced by actors) talking about their grooming behaviours and do not include descriptions of child sexual abuse.
These can be used to generate discussion and identify opportunities for prevention.
You should be aware that although the recordings are voiced by actors, some listeners may find them to be disturbing.
1) The first clip is an offender talking about how he groomed young boys in a community sporting setting.
2) The second clip is an offender talking about how he groomed a young girl within his own family.
3) The third clip is an offender talking about how he offended online
PowerPoint Presentations
We have provided five linked and downloadable PowerPoint presentations that provide information about the prevention of child sexual abuse. (Click on the image to download)
If you intend to use them to teach others then they should be used with care. Stop It Now! Scotland are available about using these materials as well other training that we offer

Scenarios for discussion
The following scenarios can be used to generate discussion about the actions that could have been taken to prevent the sexual abuse of children taking place.
It is hoped that these can lead to discussion between people so that they can identify practical and achievable things that could be used in these circumstances that would have helped to prevent abuse from taking place.
Some or all of the scenarios can be used depending on the number of participants and time available.
Suggested issues or actions for consideration are given below each scenario for you to use in helping to guide the discussion.
Click on the scenario to access a printable version or a full downloadable version of the all the scenarios.
